This week, freshmen students have been delving into the spooky world of Edgar Allan Poe by working on group-based projects that explore his life, works, and death. All classes will be presenting these projects and teaching the class about their specific topic. I'm looking forward to seeing these presentations and learning even more about this enigmatic writer. In fact, I learn something new about him every year!
Below is the project unit, as listed in Moodle:
POE PROJECT
Considered “the great master of horror,” Edgar Allan Poe has long been a favorite writer for both his thrilling stories and his equally intriguing personal life. Indeed, one cannot truly understand the writing of Poe without first having some knowledge of his own life. For that reason, you will be researching this enigmatic writer as you prepare to delve into two of his most compelling stories—“The Cask of Amontillado” and “The Tell-Tale Heart.”
Your Poe Project must include both a verbal and a visual component, which you will share with the entire class (1-2 minutes only).
For this project you will:
Work in groups of 3
Research Edgar Allan Poe
Find information, pictures, interesting facts, etc.
Then plan to present your group’s findings to the class using your voice and a creative project (PowerPoint, poster, 3-D model, newspaper article, etc.)
You will be graded on:
Quality of research
Verbal communication skills with the class
Visual project used to aid your group in sharing your gained knowledge of Poe
