Foreshadowing

It's here! Our first Term of the Week!

Foreshadowing: a technique used by authors to provide clues for the reader to be able to predict what might happen later in the story.

In Poe's "The Cask of Amontillado," the narrator Montressor provides multiple clues (through foreshadowing) that help the reader, and should have also helped Fortunato, to predict the unfortunate ending.

In our Moodle chat, we will be discussing various literary elements utilized by Poe in his stories and poems. Be prepared to discuss the technique of foreshadowing and its importance within his writing!
